PARSONS, W. VA (May 30, 2023) – St. George Medical Clinic Pharmacy located in Parsons, West Virginia hosted two students from the Tucker County High School Pharmacy Technician Certification Program this spring. The two students hosted were Paige Shaffer and Joselyn Burnside, both residents of Tucker County and students at Tucker County High School.

The students began the program by taking an online study course and then transitioned into working alongside the staff at the pharmacy.

At the end of the program, Shaffer and Burnside will take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam to become Certified Pharmacy Technicians (CPhTs). After gaining certification, the students will be confident in their abilities to support a pharmacy team and provide superior patient care. This training and certification will also allow the students to enter the workforce after completion of high school, if they wish, or continue their education in the pharmaceutical industry.

“My favorite part of the program is getting to actually work in the pharmacy setting and understanding the job behind the scenes,” says Shaffer.

“This year’s students will no doubt succeed in life outside of their high school career, and we at St. George Medical Clinic Pharmacy are proud to say we helped contribute to that success,” says Amanda Smith, Pharmacy Director.

The pharmacy is located at 221 Pennsylvania Avenue, Parsons, West Virginia and is a full-service retail pharmacy serving all patients in Tucker County and surrounding communities.

St. George Medical Clinic opened the Parsons pharmacy location in April 2021 to better serve the residents of Tucker County and its surrounding communities. The pharmacy provides both walk-in and drive-thru services for the convenience of its patients and fills more than 6,000 prescriptions each month. Along with medication filling services, the pharmacy provides immunizations and over-the-counter items. The location is a participant in the 340-B Pricing Program and accepts most insurances.
