All About Our New Infrared Temperature Scanners

December 15, 2021

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, temperature checks have become routine and sometimes mandatory at doctor visits, special events, and even in homes with immune-compromised family members. This is because a fever is a prime symptom of COVID-19, the flu, or other illnesses that can easily get others sick.

To ensure the safety of patients and staff, St. George Medical Clinic is enhancing the way we check for fevers by using touchless temperature scanners, or infrared thermometers. St. George Medical Clinic received these scanners in September 2021.

These no-contact, quick, and accurate scanners will limit exposure from patients to staff and will alert if a patient has a fever or is not properly wearing a mask inside facilities.

Let’s learn a bit about the decision behind why St. George chose infrared thermometers for all locations.

Why did you want the temperature scanners?

The scanners will cut back and limit staff and patient exposures to the COVID-19 virus or patients who are very sick with other illnesses. This is the best way to prescreen during the pandemic with as minimal exposure to our staff and patients as possible.

Where will these scanners be located at St. George Medical Clinic?

The two large scanners are located at both the main St. George Medical Clinic location and the School-Based Health Clinic. We will be getting smaller touchless temperature scanners for other internal departments and locations as well.

What features do these thermometers have?

The scanners are able to check a patient’s temperature and alert of a high fever that is over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. They also have hand sanitizer and will alert us if a patient is not wearing a mask.

What will happen if a patient has a fever?

If a patient does have a fever, the patient will wait in their vehicle to be seen by St. George staff. This will limit exposure among our staff and other patients in the clinic.
