Q&A with Dr. Jackson

January 27, 2020

St. George is pleased to welcome dentist, Dr. Ann Jackson, to the team. With experience in oral surgery and hospital dentistry, she hopes to be able to provide the community with the quality dental care it needs and deserves. We sat down with Dr. Ann Jackson to discuss her background and what she hopes to achieve through her role here at St. George.

Q: What qualifies you for this position/your education?
A: I attended West Virginia Wesleyan College for undergrad where I majored in Biology, minored in Chemistry, and achieved my Bachelor of Science degree. For my postgraduate degree, I attended West Virginia University School of Dentistry and obtained my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. I continued my education at WVU where I completed a year of general practice residency. For approximately 1.5 years I have worked as board-certified and WV licensed general dentist associate in a private practice located in Buckhannon, WV.

Q: Where are you from?
A: I am from Union, West Virginia; a small town located in Monroe County.

Q: What attracted you to St. George Dental Clinic?
A: I am from a very small town myself, so I understand the inconveniences that can come along with residing in rural areas. I appreciate the quality of health care that St. George Clinic has to offer to a community where dental resources can be limited.

Q: What do you hope to achieve through your role at St. George?
A: As I join the team at St. George Dental Clinic I hope to successfully fulfill professional expectations and excellence that both coworkers and patients deserve. I hope that my role as a dentist will help contribute to the dental clinic’s mission of providing affordable, high-quality dental care to patients.

Q: Do you have any specialties or professional interests?
A: The general practice residency I completed was heavily oral surgery and hospital dentistry based. Because of my time spent at this advanced dental education program, I do feel that I have gained additional clinical skills and confidence in handling oral surgery cases as well as tending to medically compromised patients.

Q: What’s the most enjoyable part of your job?
A: As a general dentist, I enjoy all aspects of dentistry. I get the most joy out of restoring smiles. It’s rewarding to see the transition patients take from hiding behind a smile to smiling with confidence. I also enjoy helping other people whether it’s relieving pain from a toothache or restoring teeth so a patient can function properly.

Q: What are the things you do as a part of your job that people don’t see?
A: I participate in continuing education courses to stay up to date with the latest dental technology, developments, techniques, and skills.

Q: What do you like to do outside of work?
A: In my free time I like to travel, I love the outdoors (hiking, biking, playing sports), I go to the gym or participate in fitness programs, I enjoy skiing, and I love anything that involves dogs.
